Job Description

The Vice President of Engineering, Platform will report directly to and partner with the CTO as well as partner with other Product line leaders to align the platform strategy and roadmap to the needs of the global enterprise. It is a unique opportunity to drive the execution of the technical vision to modernize the technology stack with a charter to improve scalability, reliability, operational cost, and engineering productivity. You will be responsible for the development of the platform strategy and for the delivery of platform solutions that enable our common services.

The ideal location for this position is Los Angeles, CA. We will consider candidates from Chicago, IL, and Boston, MA. This is a hybrid opportunity with time spent in both corporate and home offices.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Leadership: Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the platform engineering team, ensuring the development of cutting-edge solutions that meet business objectives. Set a high bar on engineering excellence and drive best practices for architecture, software development, including DevOps and other lean model development and testing strategies to accelerate time-to-market and drive.

Team Building and Development: Recruit, mentor, and manage a world-class engineering team across multiple locations and disciplines, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

Platform Architecture: Lead the architectural design and development of our shared platform services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance to support our growing global user base.

Technology Strategy: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and execute the technology strategy, aligning it with the company's overall goals and objectives. Own the strategy and planning for the technology platform and product modernization roadmap to drive simplification, innovation, reuse, and scalability.

Product Innovation: Drive innovation in our products and services by identifying emerging technologies and trends and integrating them into our platform roadmap.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, design, and other teams to ensure seamless integration of engineering efforts with the overall product development process. Partner closely with the global product teams and identify where platform technology can provide innovative ways of scaling, enhancing client experience, or providing better business outcomes.

Quality and Security: Create reporting, metrics, and benchmarks to ensure on-time, high quality continuous delivery. Establish best practices for security, and compliance, ensuring the highest standards are maintained throughout the development process.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a software engineer with a strong technical background.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading high-performing engineering teams.
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • A deep understanding of healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7)
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality platform solutions that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Expertise in cloud computing (e.g., GCP, Azure), microservices architecture, Docker, Kubernetes, API design.
  • Proficiency in various programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, C#), and supporting frameworks, tools, and platforms (e.g., GitLab).
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-starter with an ability to think strategically, creatively, and analytically.
  • Passion for learning new technologies and solving complex problems.

Desired:

  • Experience at a large, multinational, D2C or SaaS company, with an understanding of the complexities of scaling technology in a global environment.
  • Experience working with leading EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner).
  • Track record of leading the architecture for a new product or service, from concept to successful implementation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.

The expected base salary for this position is $160K - $284k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to base salary and a competitive benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus or commission tied to achieved results.
