This Southern California facility located in Paramount, CA is the world's first large-scale sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility. It highlights Air Products commitment to energy transition and supports California's decarbonization by producing renewable aviation fuel.

We are seeking an Environmental Technician who will handle hazardous materials and ensure the safe transportation, storage, and disposal of dangerous chemicals and waste products. This role involves supporting turnaround activities, conducting risk assessments, responding to emergency situations involving hazardous substances, and adhering to strict safety protocols and environmental regulations.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Receive and respond to hazmat related work orders, including emergency spills, cleanup and preparation for disposal
  • Track waste inventory to ensure timely removal of hazardous waste
  • Take samples for waste characterization, fill up chain of custody and get them ready for laboratory pick up
  • Coordinate scheduling of waste pickup, bin or container deliveries
  • Perform hazmat surveys and observe all live and non-running units
  • Label bins, drums, buckets and check them for leaks, or any unacceptable condition or damages
  • Operate forklift to move or relocate bins, hazardous waste or other non-hazardous waste
  • Perform weekly waste yard inspection
  • Help acquire waste quotes, and prepare paperwork to generate the accurate profile
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Groundwater

  • Daily monitoring of remediation units
  • Schedule quarterly PM and other repairs as needed
  • Coordinate and schedule pump pulls for quarterly monitoring
  • Coordinate weekly/bi-weekly conveyance piping clearance with vacuum truck
  • Take weekly/bi-weekly water/oil cuts from wells
  • Inspect piping and coordinate repair as needed
  • Do VES quarterly reports on Data Pumping and O&M summaries

Storm Water

  • Collect stormwater samples
  • Conduct weekly, quarterly and annual stormwater inspections

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Practical knowledge of hazardous waste management
  • Must be physically able to lift 50 lbs. and wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Possession of or ability to acquire 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's license preferred
  • Refinery experience preferred
  • Forklift operation experience preferred
