ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Specialist is administratively accountable to the Manager of Safety and Security and serves as a resource on all Safety Management System (SMS) programs. Duties shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain the highest level of safety in the public interest during the conduct of all activities;
  • Ensure the comfort and convenience of the Company's customers are considered second only to safety during the conduct of all activities;
  • Support the day-to-day maintenance and improvements of Omni Air International's Safety Management System (SMS), including creation and review of SMS-related documentation, achievement of corporate objectives, and tracking of company safety performance;
  • Identify and inform management of compliance issues, safety risks and improvement opportunities through the conduct of daily, weekly and monthly safety event reviews;
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and conformity to all standards during the conduct of all activities;
  • Collect and record all Mandatory Occurrence Reports and serious operational or security irregularity reports received into the Safety and Security Department;
  • Collect and compile all document, records, statements, etc. necessary to support an appropriate investigation in the causes of accidents, incidents, and reported hazards;
  • Conduct safety and security investigations and produce written reports;
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all reports and statements received in the course of each safety or security investigation;
  • Assist in identifying systemic safety hazards to Company operations and initiate prevention measures;
  • Participate in safety audits and risk assessments involving all areas of the Company;
  • Manage the Event Review system and facilitate Event Review meetings;
  • Monitor the quality of entries in the department's database(s) and assist in preparation of safety publications;
  • Assess the effectiveness of mitigation strategies through the collection and analysis of available data;
  • Receive, compile and analyze aviation safety related reports;
  • Interact at all levels of the Company and with external regulatory agencies;
  • All duties as assigned by leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Broad aviation/technical education
  • Must have aviation experience (Part 121 preferred)
  • Ability for clear expression in writing
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to communicate professionally at all levels, both inside and outside of Company
  • Be worthy of commanding respect among peers and management officials;
  • Possess superb organizational and time management skills
  • Capability to work independently (at times under pressure)
  • Capability to self-regulate schedule of working days/hours to ensure tasks are accomplished against a highly variable set of requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Maintain competence on basis of continued education and training and, if applicable, continue to satisfy technical competency requirements
  • Must be able to pass a 10-year Background/Criminal check and pre-employment drug screen

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Possess working knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Must have demonstrated experience in 14 CFR 5 Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Capacity to become familiar with all aspects of the company's organization, activities, and personnel

  • Accomplished in part through in-house induction training, but best acquired through self-study and research
  • External training may cover management of safety programs, basic accident investigation, and operational auditing

  • Maintain competence through continued education and training and, if applicable, technical competency requirements
  • Must be capable of traveling internationally

  • Ability to make decisions which impact the department's credibility, and services
  • Ability to work as part of a cohesive team and provide leadership
