Job Description

Moffatt & Nichol is actively seeking Structural Engineers with at least 5 years of experience with bridge and/or rail structure projects to join our team. You may be seated in either our: Costa Mesa (preferred), or Long Beach offices. Our SoCal bridge team provides a wide variety of structural transportation services to Caltrans, cities, and counties in the area including concrete bridge design, steel bridge design, bridge widening and replacement, grade separations, structural assessment and rehabilitation, seismic retrofit, underground structures, and retaining walls. Firm-wide, our bridge practice provides design and inspection services both domestically and internationally. We have worked on some of the most iconic bridges in the USA!

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Utilize structural analysis software for design, such as: CSiBridge, CTBridge, vBridge, VBent, CTAbut, SAP2000, etc.
  • Complete design tasks with minimal supervision and ability to work independently
  • Coordinate the structural design with other disciplines and construction team
  • Become familiar with various structural standards and building codes such as: AASHTO Caltrans Manual, AREMA, And UPRR/BNSF guidelines
  • Compile data and perform calculations required for the preparation of drawings and design studies
  • Prepare cost estimates
  • Collaborate with Bridge and Rail Team and all company disciplines

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (or related) required and Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred
  • Professional Engineer in the State of California or eligible to obtain within 6 months; Structural Engineer licensure a plus
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in bridge/retaining wall and other structural components of transportation design
  • Expertise in SAP2000 and AutoCAD; MicroStation preferred
  • Expertise of CSiBridge, CTBridge, vBridge, VBent and/or CTAbut preferred
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Base salary range:

$113,000 to $138,000 per year based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting required qualification in job description.

Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California market.

Physical requirements:

Must be able to navigate field to inspect bridges and rail. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment. Perform office work or attend meetings. Light local travel as necessary.
