Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Director of Safety to join our company who will develop, implement, and manage our company safety program and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations. This individual will maintain safety equipment inventory, perform safety inspections and audits, and manage our hazardous waste removal program inclusive of vendors and local municipalities. He or she will engage and work alongside our various facility management teams including the General Manager, Lab Safety Officer, Director of Operations and more. They will plan, implement and conduct employee training programs in a variety of disciplines to include but not limited to; emergency response, hazardous material handling, CPR, First Aid, safe driving, environmental conditions, etc. He or she will monitor environmental compliance and maintain liaison with appropriate regulatory agencies. Recommend corrective action where environmental health and safety hazards exist. Interact with others in the administration of the worker's compensation program and the implementation of workplace ergonomics and program solutions. Monitor industrial health compliance.

To ensure success as a safety director, you should display exceptional expert knowledge of company safety policies and relevant occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) standards. Ultimately, an outstanding safety director should be able to identify opportunities to minimize workplace health hazards quickly and efficiently.

To be considered for this role, you must possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree in safety management, environmental safety, or a similar field. You must have relevant experience managing safety programs in aerospace, defense, energy, or other potentially hazardous industrial work environments.

Safety Director Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to the development and execution of company safety objectives and programs.
  • Developing and implementing workplace safety policies and procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Providing personnel with safety-related information such as training sessions, emergency protocols, and proper use of safety equipment.
  • Reviewing existing policies and procedures to ensure they are up to date.
  • Overseeing the company's daily operations and identifying opportunities for improvement of safety regulations.
  • Performing safety audits and physically inspecting all work areas and job sites to identify possible safety issues.
  • Conducting risk assessments to minimize workplace accidents, occupational illnesses, or long-term health hazards.
  • Preparing monthly or annual safety reports and presenting the information to management.
  • Collaborating with management to plan and implement a safety protocol budget.
  • Responsible for consistent application and execution of safety policies/programs at six facility locations

Safety Director Requirements:

  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree in safety management, environmental safety, or a similar field.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, energy or other potentially hazardous industrial work environments.
  • You must have HAZMAT.
  • A certificate in occupational health and safety management.
  • Excellent knowledge of OSHA standards and federal safety legislation.
  • Solid knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices in the workplace.
  • Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics.
  • Ability to convey advanced information to diverse stakeholders/audiences.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Excellent managerial and leadership skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Test lab with exposure to sudden, loud noises

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
