PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment, Scripps College seeks an Interim Program Coordinator for the Scripps College Academy. Established in 2002, the Scripps College Academy (SCA) is an award-winning college access program for young women in the greater Los Angeles area and Inland Empire. Services target high-achieving young women with limited resources who seek to become the first generation in their families to attend college. The Interim Program Coordinator will manage all areas of program planning and implementation.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage an annual budget of approximately $275,000.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement to develop grant applications, reports, and other appeals to individual, foundation, and corporate supporters.
  • Maintain, or coordinate maintenance, of SCA website, student portal, and social media.
  • Track and communicate participation, college attendance, and other indicators of student success to various identified stakeholders.
  • Oversee and manage student employees.
  • With support from students, staff, and faculty partners, the Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementation of diverse opportunities for academic and college-preparatory programming for SCA participants throughout their high school education.Potential programs include but are not limited to faculty-led book clubs, science research opportunities, field trips in the LA area, and personalized assistance with the college application and financial aid process.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise8-12 Scripps College students as interns and office assistants.
  • Coordinate and assist in providing student transportation to SCA events.
  • Assist/Mentor/Counsel approximately 50 high school seniors annually to successfully complete the college application and financial aid processes.
  • The Coordinator will work an average of 2 Saturdays per month from August through May facilitating and managing SCA weekend events and programming, including managing staffing for SCA weekend events.
  • Lead and coordinate Financial Aid workshops in the Fall and Spring semesters for high school seniors and their families in collaboration with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Work closely with Keck Science Faculty to oversee the STEAM Programming, including supervision of a dedicated STEAM Coordinator.
  • Coordinate and supervise one field trip in the Fall and Spring semester for approximately 50 students.
  • Coordinate and schedule high school visits to promote SCA Summer Program.
  • Work closely with the Scripps Office of Admission to coordinate SLATE and application submission.
  • Coordinate and conduct check-in calls with STRIVE Scholars in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Coordinate college and writing workshops in the Spring semester for high school juniors and their families.
  • Coordinate end of year celebration event for high school seniors and their families.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Experience in planning, organizing, and implementing educational and extra-curricular programs and activities for middle and/or high school-age students is required.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with students from underrepresented ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic groups is required.
  • Experience with the college admission process and financial aid process, especially as it pertains to first-generation, low-income, and traditionally underrepresented students is required.
  • Must possess excellent writing, communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptionalorganizational skills, the ability tohandle multiple projects simultaneously,and to work well under pressureis required.
  • Experience working on a college campus andan understanding of the value of a liberal arts education and single-sex education is desired.
  • Spanish language fluency is highly desired.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must be customer service oriented with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage tasks and deadlines.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job.

2-3 years' experience in a similar role is required.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a temporary status, full-time, benefits eligible, exempt position. This assignment is expected to begin on or around May 1, 2024 and is expected to end on or before June 30, 2025. The assignment may be extended upon mutual agreement.

The regular hours for the position are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Hours will vary throughout the academic year and during the summer programming. Weekend and after-hour availability is required.

This position is in-person only and not eligible for remote or hybrid work.

Annualized salary: $70,000-$75,000. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, andtraining.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises program assistant, STEAM Coordinator, and student employees.
