Who is SSP?

Senior Aerospace SSP specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO-certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP was acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.

What does the job involve?

Summary: The HR business partner (HRBP) position is responsible for aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated business units. The position serves as a consultant to management on human resource-related issues. The successful HRBP acts as an employee champion and change agent. The role assesses and anticipates HR-related needs. Communicating needs proactively with our HR department and business management, the HRBP seeks to develop integrated solutions. The position formulates partnerships across the HR function to deliver value-added services to management and employees that reflect the business objectives of the organization. The HRBP maintains an effective level of business literacy about the business unit's financial position, its midrange plans, its culture, and its competition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Responsible for various functions of the Human Resources Department such as; recruiting, affirmative action plans, employee relations/services, labor relations, payroll, worker's compensation, and external agency / internal reporting.
  • Assists with the interpretation of company policies and the collective bargaining agreement. Serves on the collective bargaining negotiation team. Assists in the grievance procedure.
  • Represent the Company at unemployment and worker's compensation hearings.
  • Conducts weekly meetings with respective business units.
  • Consult with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions, programs, and policies.
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to line management (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions).
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation.
  • Develops job offer terms for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
  • Provides guidance and input on business unit restructure, workforce planning, and succession planning.
  • Identifies training needs for business units and individual executive coaching needs.
  • Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of training programs to ensure success.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
  • Other duties with the work as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources/Business Administration or related fields.
  • Minimum of 8 to 10 years experience resolving complex employee relations issues.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state-respective employment laws.
  • Minimum of 2+ years' experience working in Human Resources in a union environment.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to communicate in English (verbally and written) effectively with all levels of employees within the company.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment.
